Jon Awbrey currently serves as the publisher of the DeLeon Free Press in DeLeon, Texas, after a newspaper background in Dublin and Big Lake and experience as a marketing research editor in Lubbock.

A native of Brownfield, Texas, Jon graduated from Texas Tech University in 2001 with a B.A. in English and History. He has since pursued continuing education and post baccalaureate work in journalism through the University of Texas, Texas Christian University, and the University of California at Berkeley.

His work has appeared in various newspapers and magazines across Texas, and he has received numerous journalism and literary awards from the Texas Press Association, North and East Texas Press Association, West Texas Press Association, and the International Reading Association.

Jon is the author or co-author of local history books, including Legends of Dublin: Personalities of the Irish Capital of Texas, published in 2009, and Terry County, Texas, published in 2001, as well as the author of Aubrey: Dominion and Decline, a Concise History of the Welsh Marcher Family, printed in 2007.
